The OLCC has dictated that minors will not be allowed on premises during this year’s Oregon Brewers Festival. After 20 years, it’s hard to know what prompted the change, but it’s a little disappointing that I won’t be able to take my shorty, now that I actually have one to put that orange “I am a minor” sticker on.
I don’t really have a strong opinion on this, but I was kind of looking forward to drinking a lot of beer with friends and having Ella keep me in the free tokens. Yes, I expect that by 11.8 months of age, she’ll be an accomplished pickpocket.
I found a copy of Dancing Bull’s Guy’s Guide to Wine in the break room and flipped through it because my burrito had 2 minutes left. It’s a basic wine for dummies guide, but there’s a section on wine for beer drinkers. It assumes that guys know beer, and the 4 basic beer styles translate to wines. I thought it was kind of funny, so I scanned it to share.
My favorite part of the guide is the clumping of IPA and Pilsner as a style group, and their comparison to Merlot/Pinot. While inaccurate, the light beer and pilsner would be a better pairing. Second, it describes Merlot as “smooth and easier to handle than some of the big daddy reds.”
IPA? Smooth? It’s probably the only style of beer that most people excluded from their repertoire. Oh, and the Belgians.
I’ve waited patiently for the registration of my old domain to expire so I could purchase it back from the squatter who has been holding it ransom for the last year. Sadly, he renewed it so I’m left to wait again.
The most annoying part? He’s probably making some decent advertising money off of it. Enough to cover the expense of renewing it. Bastard.
Murmurings of a possible merger between Seattle brewery Red Hook and Portland brewery Widmer have started circulating. Please say it ain’t so! Red Hook is already dead to me.
With two beers in secondary, it was time to clean out my kegs. I’d kind of been ignoring one of the kegs because of the chip clip incident. The keg was about 2/3 full and had gone bad quickly after tapping.
Anyway, after removing the ice (fridge was cold) and still good smelling beer, I found my chip clip at the bottom. It was kind of gross too. I’ve been using a stronger chip clip for the last two batches, but I suppose I should figure out a better system.
